“You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose and to do it courageously.” Dr Steve Maraboli
Do you feel lost and disconnected? Maybe you have hopes and dreams but can’t seem to fulfill them or even get started. These 12 warning signs will help you discover where you are going wrong by not living your purpose.
1. You don’t know you have a purpose
I’ll tell you now, we all have a purpose, because otherwise why are you here? I know you have a purpose even if only to live an extraordinary life. You can’t do this if you don’t believe you are here for a reason. When you don’t have a sense of purpose you live life on autopilot, living your life for other people.
2. You hate your job
If you work but hate your job and have no plans of leaving, you are not living your purpose at all! Why not find and do work you love? I’m not saying quit, but start being conscious of your life, about where you are now and what you want going forward. When you start to do this you will begin to see a way forward and possibilities ahead.
3. You have put your dreams on a back burner
You have dreams, big ones, but they are just too big and not worth even trying for so you decide to stay where you are because it’s safe, it’s comfortable, it’s what you know. Deep down however you are slowly dying because you know what you are doing right now is not what you really want.
4. You let other people control your life
Your mom, dad, teachers, and friends tell you what to do with your life. They mean well so you go along with it when what you want to do has nothing to do with what they want for you. Your scared because your thinking what if I try my own ideas and fail, they will say “I told you your ideas were crazy” “I knew you couldn’t do it” so you don’t do anything, you live a life of pain listening to other people’s ideas of how YOU should live your life.
5. You use the someday syndrome
Have you found your purpose and know that you are meant to do great things, but you have so much going on in your life right now that you can’t seem to get started? so you tell yourself:
Someday I’ll start that business
Someday I’ll get started
Someday I’ll take that holiday
Someday I’ll make that call
Someday, someday, someday.
There is no someday. Only now.
6. You struggle with being happy
If you buy things, to feel happy you may be happy for a very short while but soon you will end up right where you started with that empty feeling of wanting to buy something else. You can’t ‘buy’ happiness that comes from deep within you, but can feel this happiness by finding purpose.
7. You are not generating Ideas
Not just ideas but also beliefs and desires into a sustainable income that allows you to fulfil your dreams and live authentic to yourself and your beliefs.
Maybe you don’t know you have ideas or believe they are even worthy.
Begin by noticing what your heart tells you. Take action on one of those ideas, you just never know it could be life-changing.
8. You lack direction in life
Where are you going in life? What’s your journey about? What would you love to achieve while you’re here? If you are not going in the direction you have chosen you will end up anywhere.
Where do you want to be?
9. You struggle to wake up in the morning
If you lack the passion for getting through the day and you don’t see the point of waking up, your life has no purpose, sure we all have day where we could do with a lie in or rest, but when you are fighting day in day out to just to get out of bed you lack purpose.
10. You feel like there should ‘more’
More to life. More to you, more to who are you are. If this is you then all you need to do is take the next step. There is more, you are absolutely right!
11. You have no idea what you want to do
You are at a crossroad, you haven’t a clue which way to turn but you stay there anyway carrying on your life, as usual, hoping the choices you have to make will sort themselves out.
They won’t unless you do something. Find what I call your ‘Happy Triggers’ (values, passions and strengths) then take it from there.
12. You think money is holding you back
Don’t hate me for saying this but money is not holding you back. That’s an excuse; your purpose has nothing to with money. Money comes from either getting a job or creating enough value in the world to make a living; your purpose comes from deep within.
Which of these warning signs are holding you back from living your purpose? Identify them and begin making small changes today towards living the life you want.
